The Boston Celtics know how to win more than other teams. They have 18 championship banners to show for it as an organization and are gunning for a 19th. While Coach Joe Mazzulla has stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, he knows that it takes more than those two or even his starting rotation to win the Larry O'Brien trophy. So, what exactly is their primary key to winning in the NBA Playoffs?
The secret is that everyone on the Celtics are primed to win. A lot of teams can claim that they have that same culture but do not have the record to show for it, sometimes not even a game. Coach Joe Mazzulla proved that he has such a deep squad that their sole bench unit could win over teams in the NBA Playoffs. They did exactly that when Baylor Scheierman, Luka Garza, and Ron Harper Jr. popped off for a combined 81 points.
The Celtics head coach acknowledged that this true depth will be their key in the NBA Playoffs enroute to a 19th banner, via Jay King of The Athletic.
"I think today is kind of the perfect example of just the locker room and the group of guys that we have. And how important it is that everybody knows that if you’re on the floor, you’re expected to play a certain way to put us in position to win, and the guys did that tonight. The last game of a season, some circumstances, they could have easily have not been," the Celtics head coach declared.
A large part of the reason why the Celtics do not want to fail is because of their fans. See, Boston has seen winning as the standard and not the outlier. From the Boston Red Sox to the New England Patriots, they know what its like to have a taste of a championship. Year after year, the fans hunger for a trophy and expect all their rosters to do the same. Coach Mazzulla knows this and it is a reason why the Celtics have a culture of winning that is above all teams in the NBA Playoffs.
"But I think the great thing about our fans is, one, they’re smart, they know good basketball. Two, they care about winning. They care about playing the right way, and I think as they see that, that’s what they want to see," Coach Mazzulla said.
The Celtics are the prime example of Boston sports excellence. It will not be a surprise when 'Sweet Caroline' echoes through the halls of TD Garden come June.
The Celtics' strategy revolves around their team depth, with Coach Joe Mazzulla highlighting that every player is prepared to contribute during the playoffs.
The Boston Celtics have won a total of 18 championships and are currently pursuing their 19th title.
Key players for the Celtics include stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but Coach Joe Mazzulla stresses the importance of the entire team's depth for playoff success.
