CFB reporter reveals frontrunner in Tennessee QB1 battle between Faizon Brandon, George McIntyre

“Tennessee’s quarterback battle was officially on the very second that Joey Aguilar’s appeal for another season of eligibility was struck down in a Knoxville courtroom. Josh Heupel went after a couple of options in the transfer portal, but ultimately was priced out of any sort of solution,” Rocky Top Talk’s Terry Lambert wrote.

College football insider Trey Wallace recently discussed how the quarterback battle is expected to play out, even going as far as naming a favorite.

“What’s Tennessee doing with their quarterback position?” said Wallace. “Is this going to be the Faizon thing or is this going to be the MacIntyre thing? From what I keep hearing, it’s probably going to be the Faizon thing. The term ‘Hail Mary’ was thrown out to me the other day in regards to MacIntyre getting the job. He had a year and a half head start on the freshman to get in and win over the locker room, and learn the playbook.”

Brandon is expected to become a star at the college level, and there is little doubt about his long-term potential. The biggest question is simply how ready he is right now. At the moment, it appears he may be the most prepared option for Tennessee.

Coming out of high school, Brandon was one of the nation’s most highly touted recruits, and that reputation is showing early as he appears to be leading the race for the Vols’ starting quarterback job. Tennessee may be young at the position, but Brandon looks ready for the moment if he earns the job this fall.
