Chael Sonnen criticizes Jon Jones for his inconsistent retirement claims, highlighting UFC CEO Dana White's lack of trust in Jones. Sonnen points out that Jones's rapid change in status raises questions about his credibility.
Chael Sonnen understands why UFC CEO Dana White doesn't trust Jon Jones.
The former two-division UFC champion went from saying he's done fighting to having his fire re-lit in the span of a day. When White was asked about Jones during the UFC 327 post-fight news conference, he responded, "How is that any different than Jon's been in the last 10 years?"
Sonnen, for one, has had enough of Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) changing his tune all the time.
"Jon Jones publicly retired on Friday, which is enough, per the rules, to have yourself removed from the testing pool," Sonnen said on his Instagram. "Jon Jones on Saturday came back and said he is not officially retired, which, per the rules, is enough to reinsert yourself into the testing pool. Now, no, none of that stuff is happening, and it's all very silly.
"But there is a question: If you're the baddest dude in the world, and you're going to be the world champion, you've got to be a man. And nobody's going to mistake you for a man, let alone the man, if they can't trust you. When you put out a statement on Friday and the exact opposite statement on Saturday, there is a simple question, and it's not whether you're retired or not or if you're going to fight again. It's simply, what good is your word?"
White denied that Jones was ever in consideration for UFC Freedom 250 on June 14. However, Jones has a different side to the story when he claimed that he got an offer to fight Alex Pereira, which left him feeling low-balled.

Chael Sonnen believes Jon Jones is not trustworthy due to his frequent changes in retirement status, which have led to skepticism from UFC CEO Dana White.
Jon Jones initially announced his retirement but quickly retracted it, stating he is not officially retired, which has confused fans and analysts alike.
Jon Jones's public retirement allowed him to be removed from the UFC testing pool, but his subsequent claim of not being retired means he could reinsert himself into it.
