Ahkeem Mesidor, the Chargers' first draft pick at No. 22, prepared for rookie minicamp by having three virtual meetings with outside linebackers coach Dylan Roney to review the playbook.
Ahkeem Mesidor made sure he was prepared to shine in the Los Angeles Chargers’ rookie minicamp that began on Friday. The Miami edge rusher was the Chargers’ first pick of the draft and No. 22 overall.
Mesidor told reporters that he had three virtual meeting with Chargers outside linebackers coach Dylan Roney between the NFL Draft and Day 1 of rookie minicamp. Mesidor said he went over the playbook with Roney beforehand, so he could come into minicamp feeling more comfortable.
“I’ve been meeting with him on Zoom three times before coming here,” Mesidor said, per the Chargers’ official website. “Just diving into the playbook so I’m a step ahead of others.”
“I try to meet with him as much as I can,” Mesidor added. “Obviously, there’s rules we have to abide by, but I met with him three times. There’s really only an hour session on Zoom.”

Chargers defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary told reporters he was impressed by Mesidor’s approach to minicamp. He said the 25-year-old is already approaching the game like a professional.
“Mature, professional, technician on the field,” O’Leary said, per the Chargers’ official website . “When you listen to him talk about pass rush, you can tell he loves the game, you can tell he’s got a high football IQ, you can tell he’s really into building his craft and treating his pass rush like a craft.
“That’s what I see when I look at him,” O’Leary added. “I see a guy that is going to walk in here, compete with everybody and is already at a place mentally where he approaches the game as a pro.”
Mesidor will join Tuli Tuipulotu, Khalil Mack, and in the edge rusher room next season. He is not expected to be an immediate starter but should be able to contribute off the bench.
