The Los Angeles Chargers knew that at some point during the offseason, they had to make a definitive decision about wide receiver Quentin Johnston's future with the organization.
The former first-round pick out of TCU has exhibited flashes of brilliance to start his career with Los Angeles, recording a career-best 735 receiving yards this past season and finishing with eight touchdowns for the second consecutive year. However, many analysts believed that the 24-year-old was a prime trade candidate for the AFC franchise.
With Chargers GM Joe Hortiz recently making his stance clear on the idea of the franchise trading Johnston this offseason, itās safe to say the public now knows where the young wideout stands with Los Angeles.
āTheĀ Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz shut down trade rumors surrounding wide receiver Quentin Johnston, making it clear Thursday that the 2023 first-round pick isn't available,ā ESPNās Kris Rihm reported last Thursday.
"There's a lot of rumors out there on Twitter," Hortiz added. "And I can tell you this, I have made zero calls about Quentin, and I've had zero calls regarding Quentin."
Based on Hortizās comments, one could conclude that the Chargers believe that Johnston will continue on an upward trajectory and develop into a stud receiver capable of helping Los Angeles reach new heights.
With Johnston likely assuming a more significant role with the Chargers in Year 4 (itās unclear if the organization will re-sign Keenan Allen), the Temple, Texas native should expect to increase his production drastically.
