Finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for: Rookie jersey numbers!
EDGE Akheem Mesidor – #90
iOL Jake Slaughter – #66
WR Brenen Thompson – #89
OT Travis Burke – #77
S Genesis Smith – #22
DT Nick Barret – #91
OG Logan Taylor – #65
OT/G Alex Harkey – #73
Best Number: OT Travis Burke
Double numbers are always the best-looking, in my opinion. I think 77 is the best offensive lineman number with Jake Slaughter and 66 being a close second. Add in that a 6’9 guy is going to wear 77 and it’s just that much better. Here’s to hoping Burke and his nasty play demeanor meet the number’s expectations.
Worst Number: WR Brenen Thompson
Ever since skill positions players were given the ability to wear single-digit numbers, that’s always been my preference. Receivers who still wear numbers in the 80s just looks too dated now. Wear something in the teens or single digits and let’s leave the 80s to the backups on the team.
Thompson is too faced and should be featured enough that we have to get this guy a better number. We can’t have 89 streaking all over the field. Science would say it takes about a tenth off his forty time just by wearing the number, alone. It’s just a law of nature.
Honorable mention here is Akheem Mesidor with 90. Again, he’s a smaller, leaner edge rusher that is best suited with a number lower than the 90s. He looked great in his #3 as a member of the Hurricanes but that is obviously being worn by Derwin James. Again, something in the teens or single digits would have been so much better for his aesthetic.
