Mentioned in this story
We were wondering if there was going to be any NFL team out there taking a shot at the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini controversy in their schedule release videos.
Well, we can say that there was one team brave enough to do it, and it was the team you’d expect: the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Chargers have become the king of the schedule release video in recent years.
They routinely have one of, if not the best schedule release videos. Los Angeles’ social media team is just the best in the business, plain and simple.
And they didn’t disappoint in 2026, as the Chargers went on to reference the Vrabel-Russini drama in their video when it came time to announce their game against the New England Patriots.
At one point in the video, you see “Next photo dump: 1 mile,” which references all of the different affair-proving photos of Vrabel and Russini that have come to light.
Then, we see a phone-type notification in the bottom right of the video that says, “NY Post sent you a message,” which is a reference to the outlet that first published the incriminating photos that kicked off the Russini-Vrabel saga.
You can check out the references to the Vrabel-Russini drama at the 3:30 mark of the video below.
We absolutely love what the Chargers did here.
They didn’t blatantly reference the Vrabel-Russini drama, but instead threw in subtle references that anyone who has followed the story closely would know.
Well done, Chargers.

While we thought there was a chance the NFL would tell teams not to do what the Chargers did with Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini, it was actually the exact opposite.
According to Mike McCarthy of Front Office Sports, the NFL did not tell teams to avoid the topic in their schedule release videos.
“The league is not reviewing videos in advance,” McCarthy said. “Instead, clubs will continue to control the content of their memes and videos from start to finish. The young, aggressive, social media wags at all 32 clubs will be free to mock Vrabel and the Patriots if they wish.”
We love this approach from the NFL.
It would be tone deaf to force teams to avoid the elephant in the room and the NFL didn’t take that route.
As for the Chargers, they have once again won schedule release day with those two simple references. Hats off.
