Charles Woodson Jr. commits to Michigan football

Last recruiting cycle, Michigan football got a legacy commitment from quarterback Tommy Carr, the grandson of former head coach Lloyd Carr. Now the Wolverines are getting the son of one of Carr's most ballyhooed players.

When it became apparent that 2027 Orlando (Fla.) Lake Nona three-star safety Charles Woodson Jr., son of famed cornerback Charles Woodson, was a real player and a likely Division I athlete; it wasn't surprising to see the maize and blue extend an early offer under the previous regime. What perhaps was surprising was that, given his father's outspoken fandom of his former team, he didn't commit immediately.

Well, better late than never, as Woodson finally pulled the trigger to follow in his father's footsteps, committing to Michigan football on Friday.

Woodson is rated as a three-star, at No. 614 overall according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. Here is the scouting report from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins:

-Smart safety with best-in-class type of bloodlines that made noticeable strides between sophomore and junior campaigns.-Darts forward with conviction in run support taking sound angles to the football despite not being the largest defender at this stage.-Flashes solid range from a single and two-high look.-Shows promising awareness in both zone and man coverage as he gets to the catch point and will play through hands.-Lack of testing data and speed markers is not ideal, but closes gaps in pads and has ripped off long runs in the return game.-Should be viewed as a potential starter at the Power Four level based on what he put on tape as an 11th grader. Must add some mass in coming years, but the ability to process on the backend is encouraging.
