Charles Woodson Jr. follows in dad's footsteps, commits to Michigan

Charles Woodson Jr. has announced his commitment to Michigan, 31 years after his father began his collegiate career with the Wolverines.

The 5-foot-10, 173 lbs. three-star safety out of Orlando’s Lake Nona High School recorded 73 tackles, two interceptions and two touchdowns during his junior year where he earned All-Americans status.

“He’s dynamic,” Lake Nona head coach David Aubrey told On3.com. “He’s explosive. Has a very high football IQ. Does well, very diverse, does well in zone coverage and man coverage. What I think is the most impressive thing is how physical he is.”

The elder Woodson was an assistant coach at the school this past season and was recently promoted to defensive coordinator.

Charles Woodson Sr. was a two-way star for the Wolverines from 1995-1997, helping the school win a national title. He also became the first primarily defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy. Following an 18-year NFL career, which included a Super Bowl title, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

The younger Woodson, who was pursued by Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and Kentucky, won’t be the only legacy recruit heading to Ann Arbor. Tommy Carr, the grandson for Wolverines head coach Lloyd Carr, who coached Woodson’s father, enrolled early and will compete for the backup job this fall behind Bryce Underwood.
