Charlotte Potts has announced her retirement from football and revealed she is pregnant with her first child. She made 91 appearances and scored 18 goals for Newcastle United during her career.

The decision comes with the exciting news that Charlotte and her partner are expecting their first child later this year.
Across two separate spells with the Magpies, the defender made a total of 91 appearances, scoring 18 goals, and cemented herself as a fansâ favourite in that time.
Charlotte played a key role in the side that secured back-to-back promotions all the way to the Barclays Womenâs League 2 in her second spell with her childhood club.
Injuries across the last 18 months have seen her time on the pitch limited with her last appearance coming against Southampton at St. Jamesâ Park in November 2024, but she has continued to play an important role around the group off the pitch.
Everyone at the Club thanks Charlotte for her contribution to the club, and wishes and her family the very best for the future.
Charlotte said: âThe past couple of seasons have been a whirlwind and itâs disappointing that I havenât been able to perform consistently for the fans at the level I believe I should be playing at.
âIâm happy with what Iâve achieved at Newcastle, and in my career, so itâs a bit bittersweet. Whenever I played for Newcastle, it always felt like home. I found my football family here, and when we achieved those back-to-back promotions, it was just the best feeling ever.
âIâm really grateful for the club and how much they have helped me. The club really helped me to get back on my feet.
âIâm going to take on another rollercoaster now with motherhood. Iâve always had a close bond with my mam, so it is just going to create a special bond now with the next generation.â
Tanya Oxtoby, Newcastle United Women Manager, said: âPottsy has played a massive part in the journey of this club, getting us to where we are now, and that impact will never be forgotten.
âIt is clear to see just how much she is loved by the fans, and to create that bond is very special. In the short time I have worked with her, the passion, determination and pride that she has shown for the club epitomises her as a person.
âWe are all excited for her and her family as she begins the next chapter of her life and becoming a mother, and we wish them all the very best.â
