Chase Young highlighted the importance of re-signing Cameron Jordan for the New Orleans Saints as they prepare for the offseason. Jordan, a key player with 10.5 sacks last season, is an unrestricted free agent and vital to the team's defense.
The New Orleans Saints' defense has seen a strong base built on tradition and several key players who are of great importance to the team. During the fifth annual DeVonta Smith Celebrity Softball event on Saturday, Saints pass-rusher Chase Young emphasized that point in an exclusive interview with SaintsWire. He expressed high praise for both the franchise's greatest defensive icon and the emerging talent that quarterback Tyler Shough brings to the team.
When discussing the defensive front in New Orleans over the past decade, the conversation always seems to center around Cameron Jordan. As the Saints approach the offseason and work on building their roster for the future, keeping Jordan, an unrestricted free agent, on the team is a top priority for Young.
"Cam is a big staple to New Orleans," Young said. "He's done a lot for the Saints. So, it's definitely important (to get him back)."
Jordan, 36, recorded 10.5 sacks last season, just ahead of Young, who had 10. Having spent 15 seasons in New Orleans, he is now a free agent as he looks toward a potential 16th season. Beyond the impressive numbers this late in his career, Jordan's veteran presence and leadership are important to the team, making his re-signing even more crucial.
Jordan's return might secure the Saints' defensive leadership group, but on offense, the team has been rallying around Tyler Shough. Despite being relatively new to New Orleans, Shough has quickly silenced any doubts about his ability as he begins his rookie season. Young noted that Shough's maturity was evident from the jump. It's a trait that the 26-year-old Shough has used to his advantage since entering the NFL.
"He always had that leadership in him. He's a vetted young guy," Young said. "That's just how he carries himself. We trust him."

As the Saints advance through the offseason and get closer to the 2026 regular season, Jordan's status — whether he remains in New Orleans or not — will be closely monitored. The locker room appears to be in a positive state as OTAs and training camp approach, but keeping Jordan in the picture could elevate the team's potential to another level.
