Wyatt Wiltfong from Cheboygan completed a Milk Mile as a punishment for losing in fantasy football. The event attracted a large crowd, showcasing community support.
CHEBOYGAN â Wyatt Wiltfong wanted a big crowd â and he got one.
Except this wasnât a football game for Wiltfong, who plays for the Cheboygan Chiefs.
It was all because of a fantasy football team gone wrong.

Standing on Cheboyganâs upgraded high school track, Wiltfongâs huge evening finally arrived.
Somehow, some way, the Cheboygan junior found a way to complete the treacherous Milk Mile, which requires an athlete to drink a full gallon of milk while running four laps around the track as part of his fantasy football punishment for finishing dead last in his league.
While there were many moments of âadversity,â Wiltfong paced himself and got the job done despite not training heading into the 5:30 p.m. event on Friday, May 1. But what Wiltfong had to his advantage was a solid crowd of supporters that willed him on from the first lap until the finish line. With Cheboygan High School athletic director Jason Friday using the Rocky theme as inspiration for Wiltfong from the press box, the football player was the one standing in the end.
A Milk Mile involves running a mile while drinking milk at intervals, and Wyatt Wiltfong completed it as a punishment for losing in fantasy football.
The community showed strong support, as Wiltfong wanted a big crowd, which he successfully attracted.

Alongside football teammates, Cheboygan junior Wyatt Wiltfong finishes off his Milk Mile at the Cheboygan High School track on Friday, May 1. Because he finished last in his fantasy football league, Wiltfong had to participate in the Milk Mile.
âYou have to keep on doing it,â Wiltfong said. âI had to do it or else. I didnât train for it at all, which I probably should have. I hardly even ate today. I only drank a little bit of water, and that was all my preparation. Itâs still good to see everybody here, but it just kind of sucks having to run a mile.â
Wiltfong had to endure the grueling Milk Mile following a disappointing fantasy campaign, where he blamed those who didn't live up to their end of the bargain.
âIt was all (Jahmyr) Gibbs and the refs,â Wiltfong said. âIt was Pukaâs (Nacua) last catch of the year, and they didnât count it, which it was obviously a good catch, and Gibbs got me like five points in back-to-back games, and I lost by one point. Brock Purdy (was responsible). I wonât be drafting him next year, thatâs for sure.â

As Wiltfong finished off his milk, he was cheered wildly by the football teammates who were egging him on just moments earlier. But true to their teammate, Wiltfong's buddies ran together with him during the last lap, something the milk-chugger most appreciated.

For those who were witnesses, they were impressed.
âI think if youâre in the fantasy league and you lose, youâve got to do it,â Cheboygan junior Daniel Harke said. âItâs poor sportsmanship if you donât, so (Wiltfong) was a great sport about it. He definitely wanted to quit, but he just kept going. Thatâs the type of guy Wyatt is. He just pushes on through adversity like that."

Wiltfong's epic Milk Mile was the first of the spring for a Cheboygan athlete, but it wonât be last, as senior David Chase will participate at a date and time to be determined.
With Wiltfong now a household name in the eyes of his Cheboygan classmates, he admitted he was the last person anyone should ask for fantasy advice.
But he made one thing clear.
âDonât draft Brock Purdy,â Wiltfong said.
