WNBA training camps open with key questions for each team.
Bayern Munich is not currently seeking a new centre-back but has Chelsea's 19-year-old defender Josh Acheampong on their radar. Acheampong has made 13 appearances this season, continuing his development after a breakthrough last year.
Chelsea defender on Bayernâs âradarâ as transfer stance revealed
Bayern Munich are not actively looking to sign a new centre-back in the summer window, but Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong remains on their radar.
The 19-year-old has progressed through the youth ranks at Chelsea and made 13 appearances across all competitions last season, marking his breakthrough at senior level.
This season, Acheampong has continued his development, featuring regularly with 13 Premier League appearances, including seven starts.
He has also made an appearance in the Champions League starting XI, with further outings coming from the bench, highlighting the growing trust in his abilities.
The youngsterâs rapid rise has not gone unnoticed, and Bayern Munich are understood to be monitoring his progress closely.
Acheampong is a highly versatile defender â primarily a centre-back, but equally capable of operating at right-back â which adds to his appeal for top clubs.
Christian Falk has told CFBayern that while Acheampong is on Bayernâs radar, the Bavarian giants are not currently pursuing him aggressively.
However, the situation could evolve in the summer, particularly if Kim Min-jae decides to leave. In that scenario, Bayern would need to enter the market for a centre-back, and Acheampong could emerge as a viable option.
Falk told CfBayern Insider: âIt is NOT TRUE: Josh Acheampong is a hot target for Bayern Munich right now.Heâs on the radar at Bayern, as theyâre always open to signing a defender should Kim Min-jae leave the club.
âHowever, from inside the club, Kim would have to go to the bosses and ask to leave, at which point they would sell him. If not, the South Korean international will stay.
âHe can, of course, stay â heâs a very good backup. I know that heâs feeling fine with his ranking in the squad. He knows heâs not in the starting-XI and thatâs okay with Kim for the moment.
âThe centre-half does want to feel important again, like he was in Serie A. However, Bayern Munich arenât pushing to leave, and they wonât buy a new central defender unless he wants to leave.â
Following Dayot Upamecanoâs commitment to the club, Bayern do not feel an urgent need to reinforce their central defence this summer.
Vincent Kompany already has multiple options at his disposal, including Jonathan Tah, Hiroki Ito and Kim Min-jae, while Josip Stanisic can also provide cover in central defence when required.
Min-jae has made 21 Bundesliga appearances this season, starting 15 of them, which reflects Kompanyâs effective rotation policy and squad management.
The 29-year-old has also featured seven times in the Champions League, including three starts.
Min-jae is reportedly content with his current role, and unless he actively pushes for a transfer, Bayern are unlikely to make significant changes in their defensive department this summer.
Bayern Munich has identified Josh Acheampong as a potential target due to his impressive development and performance in the Premier League.
Josh Acheampong has made 13 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions this season.
Josh Acheampong is 19 years old and plays as a centre-back for Chelsea.
