Despite a couple of hugely notable wins against Manchester City and Arsenal, Carrick knows Champions League qualification is the only way he can be offered the top job at Old Trafford on a permanent basis, and three points tomorrow would go a long way in doing so.

Rosenior has endured a tough start to life in the capital, with the home fans yet to take to his style both on and off the pitch. A win against United would represent the former Strasbourg coach’s best result to date, and should he go on to finish in the Champions League places, he would surely be granted another season at the helm.

Chelsea hold the recent advantage in the fixture, with the Blues unbeaten in the last five at home, a record that does include three draws. A solitary Marc Cucurella goal decided last year’s clash, with a remarkable Cole Palmer-inspired turnaround contributing to a pulsating 4-3 win for Chelsea the season before.

United’s last win at Stamford Bridge came back in 2020, with goals from Anthony Martial and Maguire sealing a comfortable 2-0 win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men on the day—what Carrick would give for a repeat this time around.
