It has always been Patrick's desire to be back on the field for Week 1, and right now, it looks like there is a good chance of that happening.
But he hasn't undergone any proper practices yet, in pads, and how he feels after that will be the true test. Some have said Mahomes should sit out the entire 2026 season to get fully healthy with his knee, but we know No. 15 is never going to do that.
Right now, he's making good progress, but he has to keep making that sort of progress to have any shot at starting Week 1.
The NFL has faith in placing the Chiefs in prime time, but we'll wait to see if that faith is misplaced.
