Just before kicking off the annual rookie minicamp on Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs formally announced the signings of 20 undrafted free agents.
Although many of these names, particularly former Cincinnati wide receiver Jeff Caldwell and Wyoming tight end John Michael Gyllenborg (an alumnus of Rockhurst High School in Kansas City), had been known, multiple names had not yet been confirmed as signing.
On Monday, Chiefs Vice President of Player Personnel Ryne Nutt predicted this would be an exciting crop of undrafted talent for Kansas City.
âI will talk about them as a class,â remarked Nutt, âweâre very excited. We think this is going to be one of the better free agent classes weâve had. Theyâre going to come in [and] theyâre going to push. It doesnât matter where youâre drafted or how you come into the Chiefs organization. Itâs what you do to create value for yourself. We feel like thereâs a lot of guys here that weâre going to bring in who are going to create value and are going to push some of the guys we have drafted, or some of the guys on our team. Weâre super excited about it. I think at rookie minicamp, theyâre going to come in and youâre going to see it.â
After adding 20 undrafted free agents, Kansas Cityâs roster should now total 91 players â the maximum allowed with tackle Chu Godrick playing under an international player exemption.
