Chili bun champion: Joey Chestnut outeats 10 others in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — It’s chilly bun weekend at Equity Bank Park, and the Wichita Wind Surge welcomed a special guest to help them celebrate.

Joey Chestnut, the world’s No. 1-ranked competitive eater, stopped by the Wind Surge game on Friday.

After the game, Chestnut hosted a chili bun-eating contest with 10 lucky fans. And he bested all of them, adding a new food to his list of victories.

Chestnut said before competitions, he tries not to eat because it makes it easier to digest large amounts of food.

“I find a way to make my body work with me, and it works for me,” he said. “I’ve built a tolerance to taking in a crazy amount of food.”

In honor of the classic Midwest comfort dish, the Wind Surge is taking on the name “Wichita Chili Buns” this weekend.

The jerseys will be crimson with cream trim, with “Wichita Chili Buns” written across the chest.
