Following Day 3 of the 2026 NFL draft, Indianapolis Colts GM Chris Ballard addressed each of the six selections made.
Here is why the Colts made the picks that they did and what stood out about each prospect.
What Ballard had to say: "He's a big powerful man. I think he's going to be a really good addition to our O-line, not only from a talent standpoint, but also from a cultural standpoint. He fits what we look for and we also think he's got some swing tackle. So, it'd be nice to add him in the mix and watch him compete."
Farmer's fit with Colts: With Ballard saying that he could be a swing tackle, it's possible that Farmer pushes both Matt Goncalves and Jalen Travis for snaps.
What Ballard had to say: "We took Bryce from Oregon and another linebacker, athletic, fast. A blue card guy for us, a really special dude. I mean, here's a guy he was drafted by the Astros, ended up walking on, earning it, and has been just a tremendous player for University of Oregon."
Boettcher's fit with Colts: He will compete with Akeem Davis-Gaither for the WILL linebacker role next to CJ Allen.
What Ballard had to say: "Gumbs is an interesting guy because he was a walk-on at Northern Illinois, played wide out, tight end, goes to Florida, they move him to defensive end. We think this kid's got some upside. He's a tremendous athlete. Thinking helps us on teams. Think we can develop him kind of as an outside backer rusher."
Chris Ballard described Jalen Farmer as a big, powerful man who will be a strong addition to the Colts' offensive line, emphasizing both his talent and cultural fit.

Gumbs fit with Colts: He will boost the Colts' pass rush depth, giving the Colts some upside to unlock.
What Ballard had to say: "We came back and took Curry, who's local, I actually watched Caden play in the state championship game against Westfield and he was pretty dominant there. And to watch him go to Ohio State play his whole career and wait till his fourth year then get his chance and have a really big senior season, but he's a really good, hard playing football player local guy."
Curry's fit with the Colts: The addition of Curry helps elevate the floor of the defensive end unit. He could be a core special teams player also.
What Ballard had to say: "Seth is a guy we've been watching here for a while. He had the incident when he was at Oklahoma, which we know, and we vetted hard. His relationship with our running back coach, our relationship with coaches at Kentucky and at New Mexico State. I've known the head coach at New Mexico State for a lot of years, and they all speak very highly of the young man and who he is and how he works, but he adds a real physical element at running back."
McGowan's fit with the Colts: McGowan will compete with DJ Giddens for the RB2 snaps.
What Ballard had to say: "Then one we didn't think was going to be there in Burks, who's extremely talented. Why he was there, I don't know. Fortunate for us. He's fast, he's explosive. We think he's got a real chance to help us and we'll try to get him worked in the return game, too. Even though he hadn't done a lot of it, we think he's got upside as a returner."
Burks' fit with the Colts: He could end up competing with Ashton Dulin and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for the WR3 role, along with also providing another option in the return game.
