Chris Pronger addressed speculation linking him to the NHL general manager role with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs are searching for a new GM after firing Brad Treliving on March 30. The decision followed a disappointing season where the team missed the playoffs for the first time in years. Toronto ended with a 32-36-14 record and struggled defensively throughout the campaign. Injuries to key players, including Auston Matthews, also hurt their chances.
Management now looks to reset the franchise direction under CEO Keith Pelley. Reports suggest the organization prefers a more analytical approach for its next GM. Several candidates from across the league are getting named in the speculations as the search continues.

Speaking during his appearance on First Up, Pronger shut down reports that he had already interviewed for the position. He made it clear that the rumors circulating around his involvement were not accurate.
āYeah, thereās a lot of rumors out there,ā Pronger said. āNo, Iām in the media like you guys. Iām interested in seeing how this all plays out, too. But thereās some vicious rumors out there that said I interviewed for the GM job. I did not interview for that role.ā
The Hall of Famer also added that while he stays open to future opportunities, no talks have taken place regarding the Leafsā job.
āNot necessarily. I think Iām excited with this next chapter, and as Iāve said numerous times, Iām open to having a conversation and seeing what an opportunity might look like,ā Pronger said. āYou know, whether itās a fit for me, whether itās a fit for the other side. And sometimes it is, sometimes it isnāt. Sometimes the timingās not right. And sometimes the opportunity doesnāt fit what youāre looking for at any given time.
āSo Iāve gone down that path earlier in my post-playing days, and now Iām excited to be a part of the media with Carlo and Noodles and O-Dog, all the boys.ā
