Former Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team principal Christian Horner has been making news after being spotted at the MotoGP paddock in Jerez on Saturday. He was ousted from the F1 team last year, and since then, he has been linked to several teams. However, his visit to the premier class of motorcycle racing with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has raised questions about his interest in MotoGP.
Since parting ways with Red Bull, Horner has been tied to rumors around a potential purchase of a stake in the Alpine F1 team. He is also speculated to be in talks with the Aston Martin F1 team for a leadership role and a share in the company.
However, with Horner serving a gardening leave for most of 2026, he is likely exploring MotoGP, which also belongs to the owners of F1 â Liberty Media, and perhaps walking in the footsteps of former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner, who led a consortium to acquire the Red Bull KTM Tech3 MotoGP team last year, becoming the CEO of the outfit.
Planet F1 quoted Horner, after he was asked at the MotoGP paddock about his interest in purchasing a MotoGP team. He said:
âI have always been a big fan of MotoGP.
âWhile Iâve got a little bit of time, I thought it was a good opportunity to come down and have a look at the championship.
âObviously, [MotoGP] is under new ownership now, in common with Formula 1, and itâs great to see the bikes and how they have evolved.â

Gardening leave is a period during which an employee is paid but not allowed to work; Horner is on gardening leave until 2026, which may limit his immediate involvement in F1 but allows him to explore opportunities in MotoGP.

Horner added he wanted to experience MotoGP in person after Liberty Mediaâs takeover of the sport in July 2025. He said:
âI was last at a MotoGP race in Estoril in 2005, so itâs been a while.
âI think itâs a really interesting time for MotoGP. Itâs going through a period of change under new ownership as well, so I wanted to come here and see a little bit for myself.
âItâs great racing. Itâs a great show. The riders are incredible and the bikes are incredible.
âItâs only when you get to see it live that you appreciate how insane these machines are.
âI think as a sport, it has so much to offer, so hopefully the Liberty guys, with the experience they have in Formula 1, will be able to lean into that.
âI know Stefano is very passionate. Iâm here with him today, so thereâs going to be some synergies there.â
Among many, Horner was spotted with Ducati and Honda team members. Notably, Honda supplied power units to the Red Bull F1 team until last year and now powers the Aston Martin cars.
