Christian Lundgaard is officially a multi-time race winner and only the second driver to win for Arrow McLaren after he passed David Malukas for the lead with 18 laps remaining in the Sonsio Grand Prix at IMS.
The start of the Month of May wasn't necessarily a clean one, as the Indy Road Course saw a first-lap crash, a driver stuck in his stalled IndyCar waiting on a yellow, and Felix Rosenqvist momentarily airborne.
Malukas took the lead from championship favorite Alex Palou and was looking towards his first career win on the primary strategy. The first-year Penske driver couldn't hold off Lundgaard as they battled through the corners and settled for second. Graham Rahal completed the podium for his second podium finish of the year.
This win comes two rounds after Lundgaard's near win at Barber following a pit stop error.
"I really didn't expect this today," Lundgaard told Jack Harvey. "I hoped for it. This was a long wait for this win, especially around this place. I mean, Jack, you know how fast I've always been here, and it's just been time after time after time, disappointment, and now we're here. Let's go!"
This was Lundgaard's second career win; his first came with Rahal Lanigan Letterman Racing at the Toronto Street Course in 2023.
