Tom Aspinall spent the last six months complaining about the âdisgustingâ fingernails of heavyweight rival Ciryl Gane, following a debilitating (some might say intentional) eye poke that rendered the heavyweight champion unable to continue during their UFC 321 headliner last fall in Abu Dhabi.
Exaggerate much?
âHis communication strategy was really bad,â Gane told RMC Sports Combat. âToday, heâs signed with an agency that I hope helps him with his communication because it was catastrophic. Sometimes itâs better not to say anything. These things happen. You donât need to overdo it, exaggerate it. The guy was like, âAhh, ahh,â acting like he canât drive anymore.â

During UFC 321, Tom Aspinall suffered an eye poke from Ciryl Gane, which led to him being unable to continue the fight.
Gane stated that Aspinall's communication about the injury was poor and that he overdramatized the situation, making it seem worse than it was.
Gane suggested that UFC fans are growing tired of exaggerated reactions to injuries, indicating a general frustration with such drama in the sport.

âHe said so many things and spent so much time trying to accuse me of who knows what,â Gane continued. âIt just didnât make sense anymore at a certain point. Even his own fans must have been like, âWow, man, thatâs enough. Relax. These things happen. Weâve got your back, but you should calm down a bit.â But yeah, that was his communication. I wasnât affected at all. Social media is secondary.â
Turns out the 265-pound strap will also be secondary in Ganeâs return.
