Clemson baseball picked up another midweek win on Wednesday, taking down the USC Upstate Spartans 7-2 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium behind a steady mix of timely hitting and solid bullpen work.
The Tigers built control of the game early and never really let it slip. After grabbing momentum in the opening innings, they kept adding just enough offense to stay comfortably in front while the pitching staff handled the rest.
Justin Leguernic played a big role in that effort. Coming out of the bullpen, the left-hander gave Clemson three scoreless innings and racked up five strikeouts, helping shut the door on any chance of an Upstate push.
Offensively, several bats contributed across the lineup. Tryston McCladdie drove in a run, while Jacob Jarrell added an RBI by drawing a bases-loaded walk. Clemson also took advantage of free passes and situational hitting to create separation during the middle innings.
Talan Bell was used in a unique way, opening the game on the mound before sliding into a designated hitter role. He reached base multiple times via walks and came around to score twice, giving the Tigers a boost without recording a hit.
Luke Gaffney still delivered one of the biggest swings of the night, launching a three-run homer in the first inning and later adding a two-run single to finish with five RBI, continuing his recent surge at the plate.
Clemson improved to 26-16 with the win and now shifts focus to ACC play, heading to Louisville for a three-game series starting Friday evening.
