Clemson baseball's hopes for an NCAA tournament bid are fading after losing a series to Florida State, needing to win the ACC tournament to qualify. The Tigers must win five games in six days to keep their season alive.

The odds were not good, but there was a path. For Clemson baseball, getting an at large bid to the NCAA tournament would involve being near perfect. Most folks figured after the BC series that if Clemson could take 2 of 3 from FSU, sweep Virginia Tech, and pick up 2 or more wins in the ACC tournament, then just maybe the Tigers would find themselves on the right side of the bubble. But, that was not the case. FSU jumped out to an early lead Friday night and Clemson could never dig itself out of the hole, and the Noles took an 8-4 win. Saturday saw Clemson strike back, a comeback 4-3 win to set up the Mother’s Day rubber match. But Sunday was more of what we’ve come to expect from this season. It was FSU jumping out to an early lead, Clemson’s pitching settling in a bit, but the offense basically giving the Noles three hours of infield and outfield practice. Even FSU’s 4 errors were not enough to give Clemson a lead as the Tigers fell 6-3. This was the last home game of 2026, last home game for these seniors, and it certainly leaves a bitter taste in all of Clemson nation’s mouth. At this point, Clemson basically has one path to making the NCAA tournament, and that is winning the ACC tournament. That would require 5 wins in 6 days, which means you may see a different rotation or tighter pitch counts for Tiger pitching in the Virginia Tech series. While certainly a series win in Blacksburg would be huge for momentum and the mental state of the club going into the ACC Tournament, getting out of this weekend healthy is the priority before Clemson tries to keep its season from ending.
Before the Tigers head to Blacksburg, Clemson takes on USC-Upstate tonight at Spartanburg’ Fifth Third Park, home of the Hub City Spartanburgers, a High A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Upstate comes into the game at 25-27 (13-11 in the Big South). Like the Tigers, the Spartans will also need a conference tournament title to find their way in the Big Dance. The two teams played back on April 21st as Clemson took a 7-2 win in Clemson. The Tigers will give Dylan Harrison the nod against Upstate righty Wyatt Land. The action gets going tonight at 6:00 PM and can be watched on ESPN+ via the ESPN App.
