Clemson freshman wide receiver Naeem Burroughs is a highly regarded recruit, seen as a top prospect for the team. He committed early to Clemson and expresses confidence in his decision to join the program.
Clemson footballâs push to reload at wide receiver is already taking shape, and the newest additions give the offense plenty to build around moving forward.
Among that group, freshman Naeem Burroughs stands out as one of the most talked-about arrivals. He entered the program with elite recruiting status, widely viewed as the top prospect in Clemsonâs class and ranked among the nationâs best overall players. That reputation came with heavy interest, as dozens of major programs tried to get involved during his recruitment.
Even with all those options, Burroughs didnât need long to make up his mind. He committed to Clemson early in the process during the programâs Elite Retreat and never entertained the idea of looking elsewhere. Now that heâs settled in, heâs confident that decision was the right one.
âI made the right decision. I love it here,â Burroughs said on the 2 Right Turns podcast. âIâve been waiting to get on campus and getting this train rolling.â
What separated Clemson from the rest wasnât just football. The environment built by head coach Dabo Swinney made a lasting impression, especially when it came to relationships beyond the field.
âI just feel like a lot of schools try to focus on just the football aspect,â Burroughs said. âLike, âOh, weâre in a big city, our football team is great,â but theyâre not really showing love, like genuine love, when it comes to wanting me as a football player. Thatâs the thing. Itâs more than just football. I want to know that if the day comes that football is over for me and I canât play again, that youâre just going to be the same exact person that youâre being. And that was the thing with Coach Swinney. Coach Swinney showed me that his love for me isnât just as a football player.â
On the field, Burroughs has the kind of speed and production that can translate quickly. He closed out his high school career with 58 catches for 1,275 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, while piling up more than 3,000 all-purpose yards overall. Those numbers highlight the big-play ability Clemson is adding to its receiver room.
âExplosive, playmaking, exciting,â Burroughs said. âI feel like every time you sit in the stands, and youâre coming to watch me play, youâre going to get a show out of me.â
