Clemson Tigers return to NCAA Softball top 25 rankings after sweeping Virginia. They won all three games against the Cavaliers, improving their record to 30-17 overall.
The Clemson Tigers made a big return to Softball America's new top 25 rankings this week.
The Tigers (30-17 overall, 12-9 ACC) earned it after a three-game sweep of the previously 18th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers (33-11, 10-10) over the weekend at McWhorter Stadium. Clemson won the series opener, 12-4, in six innings before holding Virginia to two runs in the final two games.
Abby Dunning and Macey Cintron combined to hold the Cavaliers to three hits, and Corri Hicks hit a two-run homer in the second inning of a 3-1 Clemson victory on Saturday.
In Sunday's series finale, Sierra Maness twirled a complete-game on Senior Day for her 16th win. She walked five but held Virginia to just two hits while striking out four in a 6-1 Tigers victory.
Clemson's bats exploded for four runs in the first two innings Sunday and scored in each of the first four innings overall. Mac Pavese, Taylor Pipkins, and Kylie Channell all homered for the Tigers.
In Monday's new top 25 from Softball America, Clemson reentered the rankings at No. 24. The Tigers are one spot below Washington and one spot ahead of Southeastern Louisiana.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers took the top spot after sweeping Minnesota for their 11th straight win.

Clemson has won back-to-back series in ACC play and will return to the diamond on Tuesday against Presbyterian at McWhorter Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
The Tigers then visit No. 10 Duke for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. ET. Friday's Clemson-Duke game will stream on ACC Network Extra. Saturday's game is scheduled for noon and will be televised on ESPN2. Sunday's finale is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be televised on ACC Network.
