Clemson baseball defeated No. 13 Boston College 4-3, securing a crucial series win. This victory marks Clemson's first series win in ACC play in over a month and their first against a ranked opponent this season.
Clemson baseball finally broke through at the right time on Sunday, using a late push to take down No. 13 Boston College 4-3 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium and lock up a much-needed series win.
It had been a tough stretch for the Tigers, but this weekend felt different. After Saturday’s run-rule victory, Clemson now has consecutive wins for the first time in nearly a month. The series win is their first in ACC play in over a month and their first against a ranked opponent this season.
The difference came in the eighth inning. Jackson Moore got things started with a single, and the lineup followed with quality at-bats. Nate Savoie and Tryston McCladdie helped keep the rally alive before Jarren Purify came through with an RBI single that gave Clemson its first lead of the afternoon.
Purify played a major role all game. In the seventh, he crushed a solo home run, his first in two months after returning from a hand injury, to pull Clemson within one. He finished 3-for-4 and was the spark the offense needed.
On the mound, Aidan Knaak added another milestone to his season. The junior struck out eight and reached 300 career strikeouts, becoming just the seventh pitcher in program history to hit that number and the first since 2000. He allowed three runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings, but kept Clemson in position to come back.
Boston College controlled the early part of the game, scoring in the first and third innings before adding another in the sixth to build a 3-1 lead. Clemson’s offense struggled to find rhythm through the middle innings before finally breaking through late.
Out of the bullpen, Ariston Veasey provided stability, and Hayden Simmerson finished the job. Simmerson tossed two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out three to secure the win.
Clemson has now extended its long run of series wins over Boston College and will look to carry that momentum into its next challenge. The Tigers travel to Conway on Tuesday for a matchup with No. 9 Coastal Carolina, hoping to build on one of their biggest weekends of the season.
