The NBA Finals don't start until June, but it's never too early to start making predictions for them, especially now that the postseason is underway.
In his five NBA playoffs predictions earlier this week, Colin Cowherd said that he expects the Boston Celtics to win the Eastern Conference. They're favored to do so, so he's siding with the odds there.
But what happens if the Celtics get there? Either the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs or Denver Nuggets will likely be waiting for them.
Cowherd predicted how each of those scenarios might play out for Boston.
"I think the Celtics are gonna get into the Finals. Good enough, I think, to make it competitive against OKC, but can't beat 'em," Cowherd said. "Could potentially beat a very young Spurs team."
Not only is Oklahoma City the defending champs, but it also had the best record and net rating in basketball this year. The Thunder are favored to win it all, but Boston should at least be able to put up a fight after splitting the season series with them.
The Spurs had the NBA's second-best record and net rating, plus they won both their games against the Celtics this year. They're young and have limited postseason experience, however, so Boston has a massive edge in that department.
"If I had to pick what I want to watch, it's the Celtics and the Denver Nuggets in the Finals," Cowherd added. "I would love to watch that. That would be a go either way series."
Both are veteran teams and recent champions. Boston has the more complete team in that matchup, but Denver has the best player in three-time MVP Nikola Jokic.
Time will tell how the playoffs unfold and where the Celtics end up. If they do win the East, however, their Finals opponent will likely be one of the three teams mentioned above.
