Collin Morikawa withdrew Monday from the 2026 Truist Championship, a PGA Tour signature event being held this week at Quail Hollow in Charlotte. No reason for the withdrawal was given — none is required before the tournament — but Morikawa has been dealing with a back issue since having to pull out of the Players Championship in March after playing one hole during the first round.
Morikawa, 29, won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, his seventh career Tour title, and climbed back to No. 4 in the world at the time. (He entered the week at No. 6.)
Collin Morikawa of the United States looks on from the 13th green during the first round of the 2026 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 09, 2026 in Augusta, Georgia.
Morikawa took time off for the back issues, including dropping out of the Valero Texas Open to give him an extra week of rest, but was able to compete at the Masters in April (T-7) as well as the RBC Heritage (T-4) a week later despite swinging at less than his normal speed. He has recorded five top 10s already this season.
*“*It’s not really the place to be testing, middle of a tournament, or any day out here for me, especially with where I’m at," he said of his back after the RBC in late April. "But when I’m at home next week, I’ll be able to see how comfortable can I really get, and hopefully we can just get back to normal in a short period of time. It’s been a grind. The two weeks of golf have felt like a full year of golf, just grinding through it, playing.
*"*But it was nice; I think I learned a lot about myself. Mentally I was pretty strong throughout the last two weeks. There’s something to take from not having the full health of being able to swing a club but kind of working with what you have."
Morikawa finished T-62 in the 72-man, no-cut Cadillac Championship near Miami, his poorest result when playing four rounds. He opted to take the week off before the PGA Championship, the second major of the year, next week outside of Philadelphia. Andrew Putnam replaces Morikawa in this week's field at Quail Hollow.
Collin Morikawa withdrew due to ongoing back issues, although no specific reason was required for the withdrawal.
After his withdrawal, Collin Morikawa was ranked No. 6 in the world, having previously reached No. 4.
Before withdrawing, Morikawa recorded five top 10 finishes this season, including a T-7 at the Masters and a T-4 at the RBC Heritage.
