The Colorado Eagles defeated the Henderson Silver Knights 4-0 in Game 3, led by goaltender Trent Miner’s third shutout of the playoffs. The Eagles now lead the best-of-five series 2-1.
Behind another dominant performance from goaltender Trent Miner, the Colorado Eagles moved one step closer to advancing in the Calder Cup Playoffs on Wednesday night. Miner turned aside all 20 shots he faced to record his third shutout of the postseason as Colorado blanked the Henderson Silver Knights 4-0 in Game 3 of the Pacific Division Semifinals at Blue Arena.
Forward Tristen Nielsen scored twice, while Alex Barre-Boulet continued his strong postseason with three assists. The victory gives Colorado a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series heading into Saturday’s Game 4.
The opening period featured a physical, tightly checked battle, with both teams earning a power-play opportunity but neither able to break through. Miner was sharp early, controlling rebounds and keeping Henderson from generating second-chance opportunities as the game remained scoreless through 20 minutes.
Colorado seized control in the second period and never looked back.
Defenseman Alex Gagne finally broke the deadlock at the 3:21 mark, hammering a slapshot from the point through traffic to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Just 94 seconds later, forward Tye Felhaber doubled the advantage, wiring a wrist shot from the slot past Henderson netminder Carl Lindbom.
The Eagles continued to pour on pressure throughout the middle frame, outshooting the Silver Knights 11-3 in the period. A costly Henderson turnover later led to Nielsen burying a one-timer from the right circle with 6:14 remaining in the second, extending Colorado’s lead to 3-0 before intermission.
Henderson struggled to generate sustained offense in the third period as Miner remained composed in net, turning away every chance that came his way. With Lindbom pulled for an extra attacker in the final minute, Nielsen sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:44.
Lindbom finished the night with 26 saves on 29 shots in the loss. Colorado went 0-for-4 on the power play but successfully killed its lone penalty of the contest.
The Eagles will look to close out the series in Game 4 on Saturday night at Blue Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MT.
