Colorado lost star left tackle Jordan Seaton to LSU for a record $4 million, marking the largest payment for an offensive lineman in college football history. The circumstances surrounding his transfer have raised concerns about tampering.
Colorado football lost arguably the best player on its roster this offseason in star left tackle Jordan Seaton. The move away from Boulder, albeit somewhat expected, raised eyebrows about how it came about.
In a recent report by CBS Sports' Chris Hummer, LSU swooped in and paid a whopping $4 million to land Seaton, which is believed to be the largest for an offensive lineman in college football history.
Seaton did not enter the portal until January 12, a few days before the portal was scheduled to close, and Seaton would have been locked into a third season at Colorado. Instead, Seaton entered the portal and shopped himself around according to Hummer.
"The Washington, D.C., native held meetings with teams in Atlanta as SEC and Big Ten programs alike jockeyed for the chance to meet with him," Hummer wrote.
He entered the portal expecting to receive a $2.5 million deal, but after seemingly sparking a bidding war, his value settled at around $4 million. It came down to Mississippi State, Miami, LSU and Oregon.
Unfortunately for Colorado and Deion Sanders, the Buffs were likely priced out once the price exceeded $2 million. CU can likely use that money on 3-4 players rather than a major star.
The Seaton loss is significant, but Colorado addressed its offensive line needs wisely in the transfer portal, bringing in several experienced Power Four starters that project as a solid five-man group.
LSU paid $4 million to acquire Jordan Seaton, making it the largest payment for an offensive lineman in college football history.
Jordan Seaton left Colorado to enter the transfer portal shortly before its closure, seeking opportunities elsewhere, which raised eyebrows about potential tampering.
Tampering in college football transfers can lead to investigations and penalties for programs involved, potentially affecting recruiting practices and player movement.
