Colton Herta's potential move to F2 could jeopardize the seat of one Cadillac F1 driver. Cadillac currently ranks as the worst team in Formula 1, struggling to compete effectively.
Cadillac F1 driver Colton Herta could end up taking a seat soon after making the switch over to F2, and one Cadillac driver stands out as the most vulnerable to losing their seat.
To no one’s surprise, Cadillac is the worst team in Formula 1. They are well behind the rest of the field, which was expected, given how much new infrastructure needed to be established.
The team was truly built from the ground up, making it important for them to hire two savvy veteran drivers, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
Perez and Bottas have been relegated to a largely uncompetitive car, though they have been brought in to provide feedback and help develop the team and machinery to the level they should be at.

Meanwhile, Cadillac, which is owned by the same ownership group that has Andretti Racing, the IndyCar outfit, has been supporting Colton Herta as the team’s future driver.
Herta has been a young-hotshot American name in F1 circles for years, almost getting a shot at joining Red Bull’s junior program, missing out due to a lack of superlicense points.
However, Cadillac has given his F1 dreams new life as he gets a chance to make an impression in F2 and learn in similar cars before making the jump up to F1.
According to motorsport journalist Julianne Cerasoli, Perez’s contract makes it much harder for the team to move him than it would be for Bottas.
“Ferrari has two teams on the grid: one is Haas, the other is Cadillac. It turns out that Cadillac has a certain Colton Herta who’s already been talking about being a driver next year, right, as a regular driver next year,” Cerasoli reports.
The article suggests that one Cadillac driver stands out as particularly vulnerable, although it does not specify who that driver is.
Cadillac is viewed as the worst team due to their significant lag behind competitors, stemming from the need to establish new infrastructure.

“And they, being a new team, aren’t going to swap two drivers and put in two inexperienced drivers. So, for Rafa Câmera, this move is very important to understand which way Haas is heading and whether Ferrari is really missing the boat within the American team.
“It’s not about finishing the championship in a higher position; it’s about who secured the best deal. And look, I’ll tell you this. There’s a 90% chance that Perez secured the best deal.”
