The Indianapolis Colts have signed safety Nasir Adderley, who previously retired from the NFL but announced his intention to return in February 2023. This move comes ahead of the 2026 NFL draft as the team strengthens its roster.
The Indianapolis Colts have made another free agent addition at the safety position.
The team announced on Tuesday that they have signed safety Nasir Adderley.
Adderley last played in the NFL during the 2022 season. In the 2023 offseason, he retired from the NFL, but announced he intended to return back in February of this year.
Adderley was a second-round pick out of Delaware by the LA Chargers in the 2019 NFL draft. In Years 2 through 4, Adderley appeared in 46 games, making 44 starts.
For his career, he allowed a completion rate of 69% when targeted, surrendering 11.7 yards per catch with three interceptions and nine pass breakups, according to PFF. He made 226 of his 265 tackle attempts.
Most of Adderley's career snaps have come at free safety.
Although the Colts signed Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas in free agency to compete with Hunter Wohler for the strong safety role next to Cam Bynum, there are still unknowns around what the Colts truly have at that position.
Adderley adds some potential competition and bolsters the depth at safety -- although it remains to be seen how quickly he reacclimates to the NFL after being away for a few seasons.
