Kenny Moore II's next landing spot will come via the open market rather than a trade.
The Indianapolis Colts released the former Pro Bowl cornerback on Thursday, May 7, at his request, according to multiple reports.
Moore, who turns 31 in August, requested a trade from the Colts in April. But with this year's NFL draft having passed without a deal materializing, he and the team opted to part ways in a different manner.
Moore was set to carry a $13.1 million salary cap hit as he entered the final season of a three-year, $30 million deal. Instead, Indianapolis will save more than $7 million against the cap by moving on from him.
An undrafted free agent out of Valdosta State in 2017, Moore latched on with the Colts and spent nine years in Indianapolis. He became a standout in the slot, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2021.
But Indianapolis spent big elsewhere at cornerback last year, signing Charvarius Ward and then trading for Sauce Gardner to hold down the back end of coordinator Lou Anarumo's defense. Moore also missed three games last season with an Achilles injury.
Justin Walley, a third-round pick in 2025 who missed his entire rookie season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last August, could be in line to take over as the nickel.
The Colts released Kenny Moore II at his request after a trade did not materialize following the NFL draft.
