Anthony Richardson wasted no time requesting a trade from the Indianapolis Colts after completing his third season with the two-time Super Bowl champions.
The Colts agreed to seek a trade for the Florida product in late February, even though it wasnât their original idea. Unfortunately, a recent trade rumor doesnât bode well for Richardson and his hopes of getting sent to a new franchise.
âRichardson is training in Jacksonville and, while (Chris) Ballard said he's âstill recovering a little bit,â from the freak eye injury he sustained last October, he's been cleared for activity and is âdoing everything,â Colts.com writer JJ Stankevitz wrote Monday.
âBallard, too, did not shut the door on Richardson ultimately returning to the Colts if a trade cannot be facilitated. "We've had some calls, but nothing's come to fruition at this time," Ballard noted. "So at this point, he's still an Indianapolis Colt."
In an ideal world for Richardson, the Colts would find a logical trade suitor and send him packing after three seasons. Richardsonâs tenure with the Colts has been far from smooth, as injuries, accuracy issues, a questionable motor, and inconsistent play have prevented the former first-round pick from flourishing in Indianapolis.
Unfortunately, for Richardson, it appears that a fresh start elsewhere may not be in the cards for him, likely frustrating the 23-year-old signal caller. Richardson has completed 177 passes for 2,400 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 17 total contests to begin his NFL career.
Hopefully, for Richardsonâs sake, he gets his wish before the start of the new season.
