The Washington Commanders, while moving to the future, are also telling their fan base they are not unnecessarily pushing out their history either.
Mark Clouse, the Commanders' team president, appeared as a guest on "BMitch & Finlay" of 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday. "Anyone that's been following the journey since Josh (Harris) purchased the team would see a very purposeful path of bringing the heritage of the team back into our brand, our experiences."
Clouse pointed out that in the last two seasons, the Commanders have retired the jerseys of Redskins Hall of Famers Darrell Green and Art Monk. He also pointed out that the Harris group was intentionally moving back to the site of the old RFK. Harris doesn't want to attempt his own brand solely. No, Harris wants to preserve more of the history of the once-great franchise.
"Ensuring that we really celebrate that Redskins heritage is an important part of our journey. I think that this uniform transition is really the next step in that path. It brings back some iconic elements from the Super Bowl era."
Some of the younger fans might feel it's time to move on from Redskins to a new era, but Clouse counters, "It's not just about going back. When you see these elements together, it just feels right. The color of Burgundy, the gloss on the helmet, the golden face masks, the strip patter. This is blocked numbers, this looks like a football uniform. Although it does look like our past, it's also something we are proud about for the future."
For those who have wanted new colors, who thought the Redskins uniforms ugly, Clouse told Mitchell and Finlay, "This is what I would call true burgundy and gold. As a brand guy, one of the things I think about all the time is the consistency of how you deliver your brand. "The goal here was not to try to put our thumbprint on something. We want to go with what is the best representation of the Commanders' brand. We also want to make sure we are doing a good job of celebrating the heritage and then integrating it into the Commanders' brand that we are building as well."

Did the Commanders discuss other various options for the uniforms? It appears they were open-minded to other tweaks. But Clouse also countered regarding this, "Although there's always temptation to try to get a little creative on certain things, sometimes it's just best to hit it straight down the middle of the fairway."
