The Commanders need to address a critical position group in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, as highlighted by Danny Rouhier. The team's receiving corps has struggled, particularly following a disappointing 2025 season.
"It's the most critical area of the team."
That is what 106.7 The Fan's Danny Rouhier confidently stated on Wednesday, on the Grant & Danny Show. What position group was Rouhier referencing? "It is the gaping hole," he continued. "I will not do the Noah Brown, 'I hope someone gets cut' tier of receiver again. No, thank you; neither will they, by the way."
Noah Brown made an impact in his very first game, a Week 2 home contest against the New York Giants in the 2024 home opener. QB Jayden Daniels looked for and found Brown over the middle for a large gain on the game's final possession, leading to the walk-off field goal. Next, of course, was the 'Hail Mary', which Brown caught while needing only to stand in the end zone for the walk-off home win over the Bears. After that, Brown has been more injured than healthy, and so, he remains unsigned by any NFL team.
2025 was quite a disappointing season for Washington receivers. Their best receiver attempted to play hardball with the Commanders, sitting out, then sitting in training camp, demanding a much better contract extension, and it lasted entirely too long. Coaches and players played up to the media, smiling, acting as if it were a Disney movie, and everyone was going to live happily ever after. Everyone except former OC, Kliff Kingsbury. He put an end to the acting, stating starters need enough time on the grass together, and it wasn't happening.
Sure enough, McLaurin, who missed time, wasn't physically 100 percent prepared for the regular season when he signed his extension. He missed seven games and wasn't healthy in some of the games he did play. Luke McCaffrey missed the final eight games, and Brown missed 13 games. The Commanders signed , who had been released by the Titans, and he played the last eight games. and were called upon to play three games, and Jacoby Jones saw action in one game.
The Commanders need to focus on strengthening their receiving corps during the 2026 NFL Draft.

Rouhier was spot on regarding his interpretation of the actions of Commanders GM Adam Peters this offseason, as well, regarding the Commanders' depth at the receiver position. "They showed you they didn't want to do that (rely on 2025 receivers). That's why I am going to keep hammering this: they went after Alec Pierce (Colts FA receiver) and Romeo Doubs (Packers FA receiver). Had they not done that, I would say, 'You guys don't see the issue. They see it too."
Indeed, Peters realizes the issue. He re-signed Burks and signed veterans Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson, making the roster much deeper than it was in 2025, with Chosen, Martin, and Jones. Peters will no doubt seek to draft a receiver in this draft, as well as perhaps sign free agent Brandon Aiyuk once he is released by the 49ers.
Yes, Adam Peters is well aware of the need to upgrade the receivers group.
