The Washington Commanders are considered the ideal landing spot for free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs, according to Pro Football Focus. The team is in need of a standout receiver to support Terry McLaurin and improve their passing game.
One thing the Washington Commanders have been unable to do this offseason is find a suitable wide receiver to take the pressure off Terry McLaurin. They drafted Antonio Williams in the third round, and they have plenty of rotational pieces, but no one to really stand out and force defenses to take their eyes off McLaurin.
There have been talks of the Commanders scooping up Brandon Aiyuk, should the San Francisco 49ers release him, but that hasn't happened yet, and minicamp is right around the corner. Aiyuk isn't the only answer to the Commanders' problems, though.

The Commandersâ receiving corps was sneakily one of the more dire going into the draft. Even after selecting Clemsonâs Antonio Williams in the third round, Washington needs another reliable weapon for Jayden Daniels.
Diggs was cut by the Patriots just one year into his lucrative contract, but his 2025 performance wasnât the reason why. The 32-year-old was an anchor for New Englandâs upstart passing attack, ranking 10th among qualifiers in PFF receiving grade (82.6) and yards per route run (2.08) while dropping just 2.9% of his targets.

Diggs will now play on his fourth squad in four years, but heâs been a remarkably consistent playmaker when healthy â earning at least a 77.6 receiving grade in every season of his career. With Terry McLaurin and Luke McCaffrey both appearing on under 500 snaps in 2025, Daniels would benefit from Diggsâ inside-outside skillset to lift the Commandersâ beleaguered group.
Diggs' on-field performance has never been a problem. He's been consistent throughout his 11-year career, but his off-field actions have proven to be problematic. In the last five years, he's had two separate legal incidents involving abuse, one with a former girlfriend and one with his former private chef.
The incident with his former girlfriend is ongoing in civil court and has not been resolved yet. He was found not guilty in the case involving his former chef, so that should give teams some confidence in bringing the veteran wide receiver back into the fold.
Diggs would be a fantastic complement to McLaurin and would absolutely make Jayden Daniels's life a lot easier on the football field. The Commanders will have to decide whether they're willing to deal with his off-field baggage. When Diggs plays, he remains productive. Last season, he helped lead the Patriots to a surprising Super Bowl appearance, leading the team with 85 receptions and 1,013 yards.
Diggs is a Maryland native, played collegiately at the University of Maryland, and has been linked to the Commanders multiple times in recent weeks. So, it's no surprise that PFF believes Diggs would be a good fit in Washington.
