The Washington Commanders unveiled new uniforms for the 2026 NFL season, featuring burgundy and gold jerseys inspired by the team's Super Bowl era. The designs include a primary home uniform, a white road uniform, and a black alternate known as the 'Hail Raiser.'
The Washington Commanders looked to the past to redesign the team’s future. The franchise unveiled new uniforms Wednesday, which draw heavily from the team’s Super Bowl era.
The team revealed three new looks for the upcoming 2026 NFL season, one burgundy, one white and one black.
The burgundy and gold jerseys are expected to be the primary uniforms the team will wear at home. The white uniforms will be worn on the road. And the black uniform — known as the “Hail Raiser” — will be an alternate for the 2026 season.
In its release Wednesday, the Commanders said the redesigns were meant to bring together “the franchise's storied past with a bold, modern identity.” The unveiling was met with some positive reactions on social media.
The new designs harken back to the team’s Super Bowl seasons, when the team was called by a different — and more controversial name. While the Commanders strongly hint at the new uniforms being a nod to their former name, the team did not use the name in its release.
The “Hail Raiser” uniform, however, does feature an overt reference to that name. The helmet of that particular uniform features the team’s “W” logo, but with a spear running through it.
The team once again mentioned its desire to merge “past and present” when talking about the spear, though also claimed the logo was meant to symbolize “the tip of the spear.”
“The inclusion of the spear and its sharpest point – the spearhead or "tip of the spear" – symbolizes the top fighters, the front lines, those leading a mission who are unafraid to step into the fire.”
While that particular logo could draw some criticism, the uniform changes were generally celebrated by fans Wednesday, who appreciated the team’s effort to pay homage to the past and bring back the burgundy and gold in 2026.
