It was far too easy for opposing offenses to push the ball down the field on Washington, forcing the franchiseâs offense to perform at a superhuman level to improve their odds of succeeding.
WUSA9âs David Harrison believes that signing a former Dallas Cowboys star defender could be the answer to the Commandersâ defensive problems.
âTrevon Diggs brings elite upside and massive questions to the secondary,â Harrison wrote last Thursday.
âWhile Peters added several new young players to his roster over the draft weekend, he did not spend any of his six picks on a defensive back, leaving Trey Amos, , , and as the four cornerbacks likely to make the teamâs 53-man roster when the time comes.â
The specific player has not been named, but he is a notable former star defender from the Cowboys.
The Commanders' secondary was problematic, allowing opposing offenses to easily advance the ball down the field.

Diggsâ high-level instincts and anticipatory chops helped him emerge as one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL in the early 2020s. Recording 11 interceptions in a 17-game season is a significant accomplishment, and although things have gone downhill for Diggs since then, itâs worth the Commanders giving him a shot on a one-year deal.
Until then, Diggs will remain one of the most captivating CB free agents on the market.
