After the first day of rookie minicamp on Friday, Williams spoke with the media, saying he followed the draft closely and noticed which receivers were drafted ahead of him. "But I'm where I'm at, I am where I want to be now," declared the former Clemson receiver that the Commanders drafted at No. 71 overall.
"So, it all worked out perfectly. I'm happy I am here and I am happy to get to work," expressed Williams. Being the first day as a Commander, Williams understandably was excited getting started.
"It felt great, just like another dream come true stepping out on that field. I just love football and I love being out here competing with this team, these guys and getting to know everybody."
One media member asked, "What is your message to this fan base? What are they going to be getting in you?" Williams responded, "When AP (Adam Peters, Commanders GM) drafted me and everybody that drafted me, I have a responsibility to come and carry out the vision they had when they made that call to me. So, I am going to put my head down every day, put in all the work, and be the best version of myself. Hopefully, you know, that is more than they expect from me."
When asked if he preferred playing the inside (slot) or outside receiver, Williams explained, "I prefer everything. I feel like that's when I'm at my best. I feel like I am a versatile player. I can line up everywhere and run every route."
It would be great if Williams can be that versatile so that in passing situations, the Commanders can put there best four receivers out there. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. For now, Commanders fans can hope this new receiver will continue to be happy to be a Washington Commander.
