HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) — The Hershey community is mourning one of their own.
Joe Senser, a 1974 Milton Hershey School graduate and former member of the school’s board of managers, passed away Thursday at the age of 69.
Senser was a nationally-recognized athlete, drafted by the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings in 1979. Within two years, he was selected to the Pro-Bowl.
“Joe never forgot the impact MHS had on his life,” Milton Hershey School President Peter G. Gurt said of Senser’s impact. In addition to serving on the Board of Managers, he also served on the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Co. Board of Directors. “He believed deeply in the power of this School to change lives, and he gave back with gratitude, humility, and a strong sense of responsibility to the students who followed in his footsteps. He was a fierce advocate for MHS and consistently acted with an unwavering commitment to the mission our founders, Milton and Catherine Hershey, envisioned.”
“On behalf of Milton Hershey School, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Joe’s family, friends, classmates, and all those whose lives he touched,” Gurt added. “We are grateful for his life, his service, and the example he set for generations of Spartans.”
The Minnesota Vikings ownership — Mark Wilf and Zygi Wilf — said “his impact on the organization and in the community was felt long after his playing days.”
“Joe was a generous soul with countless charitable endeavors,” the Wilfs said in a statement. “He brought his positive personality to every interaction he had, whether it be with former teammates, Vikings staff or our family when we became stewards of this franchise. Joe’s warmth and welcoming spirit will last in the memories of those who knew him.”

Senser was inducted into the Chester County Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
