Bomani Jones says Sean McVay is not a quarterback whisperer
Bomani Jones challenges the notion of Sean McVay as a quarterback whisperer.
The Green Bay Packers signed Tyrod Taylor to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million, featuring a $700,000 signing bonus and $1.3 million base salary. Taylor's deal includes $500,000 in incentives and ranks him 48th among quarterbacks by cap number in 2026.

It appears the Green Bay Packers signed veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor to a contract featuring the veteran minimum base salary and only $700,000 in guaranteed money.
According to Spotrac, the one-year deal signed by Taylor is worth a value of $2.5 million, with a $700,000 signing bonus, $500,000 available in incentives and a 2026 cap number of $2.88 million.
The signing bonus is the only guaranteed money in the deal. Taylor can also make $500,000 in total per-game roster bonuses, but only $388253 will count against the cap in 2026. His base salary will be $1,300,000, the minimum for a player with 10 or more accrued seasons.
By cap number, Taylor will rank 48th among quarterbacks in 2026 -- making him one of the more affordable backup quarterbacks.
This looks like a win all around for the Packers. Matt LaFleur's team is getting a proven, experienced backup quarterback at a reasonable price, and the signing -- because of it was completed after the draft -- will not affect the compensatory pick formula for 2027.
If, for some reason, Taylor does not win the backup job and is released, he will leave behind nothing more than a $700,000 dead cap hit in 2026. The other quarterbacks on the roster behind Jordan Love are Kyle McCord and rookie Kyron Drones.
Taylor, who turns 37 this year, previously signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the New York Jets in 2024. The deal included a $4 million signing bonus and over $8 million in guarantees.
