Apr. 12—MOUNT PLEASANT — College of Charleston used a 14-hit attack — and stole seven more bases — as it defeated North Carolina A&T 10-5 at Patriots Point to complete the series sweep and win its fifth straight.
Six different players had two-hit performance for the Cougars (16-19, 8-7 CAA), while freshman Jake Amman became the third Cougars player with three stolen bases in a game this weekend. The Cougars stole 21 bases in the weekend series.
Freshman Austin Wiegandt collected his second victory, striking out five Aggies (9-25, 3-12) in 32/3 innings while yielding just one run.
Charleston Southern 11, USC Upstate 3
SPARTANBURG — Gavin Speirs homered and drove in four runs as Charleston Southern avoided a series sweep by beating USC Upstate 11-3.
Speirs was 3 for 5 with a homer and two doubles for the Bucs (21-13, 6-6 Big South), while Kain Collins was 2 for 4 with two walks. Tyler Wright and Garrison Barile drove in two runs apiece.
CSU starter Matt Gallant improved to 5-0, allowing an unearned run on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts in six innings.
No. 6 North Carolina 12, Clemson 5
CLEMSON — No. 6 North Carolina totaled 16 hits and broke open a close game with five runs in the fourth inning in a 12-5 victory over Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Owen Hull homered and drove in five runs for the Tar Heels (30-6-1, 13-5 ACC), who won the series 2-1.
Tyler Lichtenberger and Jason Fultz Jr. had two hits for Clemson (23-14, 5-10), while Bryce Clavon drove in two.
Wofford 5, The Citadel 3
SPARTANBURG — Tanner Hardin doubled in the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning as Wofford beat The Citadel 5-3 to sweep the three-game series.
Lane Tobin was 1 for 1 with three walks and a hit by pitch for the Bulldogs (16-19, 3-6 Southern Conference), while Sam Dansky was 2 for 3 with a walk.
Citadel starter Bryce Coulter allowed two runs in two innings, while reliever Andrew Buffkin took the loss.
College of Charleston stole a total of 21 bases during the weekend series against North Carolina A&T.
Gavin Speirs was the standout player for Charleston Southern, hitting a homer and driving in four runs in their 11-3 victory over USC Upstate.
The final score of the game between College of Charleston and North Carolina A&T was 10-5 in favor of the Cougars.
