Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs recently extended an offer to a 2027 quarterback that’s committed to an SEC rival. The Bulldogs, however, are hoping to flip the talented recruit.
Earlier this week, the Georgia Bulldogs extended a scholarship offer to 2027 three-star quarterback Derrick Baker.
Baker, 6-foot-1/226 pounds from Alpharetta, GA, has been committed to the Tennessee Vols since February.
The three-star quarterback isn’t currently rated very high, but he was recently described by On3's Cody Bellaire as a recruit who has a chance to be one of the “biggest risers in the country”.
"There was a deep group of passers at Under Armour Atlanta and two quarterbacks surged to the top of the group, but we had to give the edge to the stronger arm and that was Derrick Baker," wrote Bellaire in March. "He's college-ready right now from a physical and athletic perspective. At 6'1, 220-plus pounds, Baker looks the part of a college linebacker than he does a quarterback. But don't get it twisted, Baker has the arm talent and accuracy to throw it with the best of the best at the quarterback position. He's also extremely comfortable throwing on the run and is capable of letting off the gas in order to layer the football into tighter windows. If he's able to carry over his camp performance onto the field on Friday nights, he has a chance to be one of the biggest risers in the country."
Baker spoke to 247Sports about the offer from the Bulldogs and he dropped a quote that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart won’t love.
Derrick Baker's quote following the Georgia Bulldogs' offer has sparked interest, particularly regarding his commitment to Tennessee.

The three-star recruit told 247Sports that he’s “probably not going anywhere” in regards to his commitment to Tennessee.
Baker also noted that his only scheduled official visit is with the Vols in June.
“I’m probably not going anywhere,” said Baker to 247Sports. “The only visit I have is Tennessee for my official visit in June.”
While Baker indicated that he isn’t planning on decommitting from Tennessee just because he was offered by Georgia, he made sure to point out that the offer from the Bulldogs “means a lot”.
“Obviously just as a younger kid, I was able to see Georgia and even now, Georgia being such a prestigious university,” said Baker. “It means a lot because they have trust to extend an offer. They wanted to offer a guy and it be committable, so really it shows the trust they have in me.”
Tennessee likes Baker a lot, so they’re going to do all they can to keep Smart and the Bulldogs from swiping Baker.
