The Dallas Cowboys are considered the top destination for a five-time Pro Bowl running back with 87 career touchdowns. The team's current depth at running back is lacking, making this addition potentially beneficial.

The Dallas Cowboys running back room is far from terrible, as Javonte Williams is coming off a breakout campaign that saw him finish in the top-10 in carries (No. 10), rushing yards (No. 9), and touchdowns (No. 8).
However, the franchiseâs depth could use some work, as the next RB in line finished the 2025-26 season with 52 carries (one less than quarterback Dak Prescott), 250 rushing yards (only 73 more than Prescott), and two touchdowns (tied with Prescott).
Adding a five-time Pro Bowl RB with 86 career touchdowns (rushing and receiving) this offseason could be the answer to the Cowboysâ problems in the backfield, at least thatâs what Bleacher Reportâs Kristopher Knox thinks.
âWhile (Alvin) Kamara is on the roster now, that could change after June 1,â Knox wrote Thursday. âAfter that date, the Saints would save $456,741 in cap space by trading him. Moving him before June 1 would cost $7.6 million in additional 2026 cap space.â
The Cowboys are interested in signing a five-time Pro Bowl running back with 87 career touchdowns.
The Cowboys' next running back finished the 2025-26 season with 52 carries, 250 rushing yards, and two touchdowns.
The Cowboys need to add a running back to improve their depth, as their current backup has significantly lower stats compared to the starting quarterback.

âWhile New Orleans is unlikely to get a massive return for an aging back, Kamara's dual-threat ability should warrant some interest from running back-needy teams. The Saints will be more likely to accept a bargain offer once the cap hit of moving Kamara becomes more manageable. Potential Suitors: Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs.â
Adding Kamara to the fold would give the Cowboys one of the most dynamic RB units in the league. Although Kamaraâs 2025-26 campaign was the worst of his career (131 carries for 471 yards and one touchdown from a rushing standpoint, and 33 receptions for 186 receiving yards and zero touchdowns from a receiving front), heâs still one of the most elusive and well-rounded running backs in the league.
Kamara recently expressed his excitement about teaming up with Etienne in New Orleans, but that doesnât rule out a blockbuster deal involving the former third-round pick.
Itâll be up to the Cowboys to convince the Saints to send their two-time All-Pro star to Dallas before the new season commences.
