Are the Dallas Cowboys still seeking assistance at linebacker after trading for Dee Brooks during the 2026 NFL Draft?
Most likely, but there are no signs indicating another move at the position is imminent for the franchise. Still, that didn’t stop Heavy’s Sean Deveney from linking Dallas to a former Washington Commanders All-Pro LB.
“There is no doubt there is concern about the depth at linebacker, and that perhaps a veteran could be the answer,” Deveney wrote Wednesday. “A trade for the Dolphins’ Jordyn Brooks is the dream for the Cowboys, and veteran Bobby Wagner has been the darling of the Cowboys speculation circuit.”

While a deal hasn’t come to fruition since then, Wagner remains one of the best LB free agent options for the Cowboys in mid-May. At age 35 (soon to be 36), Wagner is among the most versatile, fundamentally sound linebackers in the league.
In two seasons with the Commanders, Wagner recorded 294 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 34 games. Considering the Utah State product likely won’t be on the market for much longer, Dallas should be prepared to go all-in if they’re truly fond of the fit.
