The Chicago Cubs have been one of the best teams in baseball this season, and they're in great shape to go on a postseason run.
However, there is one massive issue plaguing this team that's been a problem the last few years: starting pitching. This season, they've lost Justin Steele and Matthew Boyd for much of the year, and Cade Horton is out for all of 2026.
The Cubs need more pitching help, and that's why it wasn't a surprise that Bruce Levin of 670 The Score reported that the Cubs have had trade talks with the New York Mets about Freddy Peralta.
"According to industry sources, the Cubs are one of the teams the Mets have talked to about acquiring RHP Freddy Peralta," Levin reports.
The Cubs are seeking to strengthen their starting pitching due to injuries to key players like Justin Steele and Matthew Boyd.
The Cubs have faced significant challenges with their pitching rotation, losing multiple starters to injuries this season.
Acquiring Freddy Peralta could significantly enhance the Cubs' pitching depth and improve their chances for a successful postseason run.

This trade would make a lot of sense for the Cubs and would be a genius move if Craig Counsell and the Cubs could pull this trade off with the Mets this season.
The Cubs need to add starting pitching help this season to be a true World Series contender. Their offense is good enough, and the defense is elite.
The only thing missing is the starting rotation. If the Cubs can find a trade for a starter, they should pull the trigger.
And while someone like Sandy Alcantara has been a fun name in recent years to mention to the Cubs, if they could find a way to bring in Peralta, it would be a huge win.
This season, on a Mets squad struggling to piece much of anything together, Peralta has been great. He has a 3.12 ERA with 43 strikeouts in eight starts.
After a four-run Opening Day performance, Peralta hasn't allowed more than three runs in an outing, and since his fourth outing onwards, he's gone at least five innings with some overall impressive performances.
The Mets are reeling and could be sellers. Adding someone like Peralta as a rental would make a ton of sense. After being unable to acquire him from the NL Central rival Milwaukee Brewers, the Cubs now have a chance to land Peralta thanks to the Mets.
