Curtis Blaydes is going to be dealing with the aftermath of his UFC 327 loss to Josh Hokit for quite some time.
Blaydes (19-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) was on the losing end of the Fight of the Year frontrunner so far on Saturday at Kaseya Center in Miami when he got into an epic back-and-forth war with Josh Hokit (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) that left everyone in awe.
Despite nearly being finished multiple times, Blaydes showed incredible heart and determination by continuing to push forward through a sea of blood on his face. It wasn't enough, though, because he lost a unanimous decision.
Both Blaydes and Hokit were transported to hospital immediately after the fight without doing any media. Hokit updated that he was released, and now information on Blaydes has come out, and it's not good.
Blaydes management at VaynerSports told MMA Junkie on Sunday that the heavyweight contender sustained a fractured orbital and fractured nose in the fight. He's been released from Miami hospital and will return to Colorado to recover.
A timeline for Blaydes, 35, to fully heal and return to training or competition is unknown at this time.
Blaydes and Hokit combined for 354 significant strikes landed over three rounds, setting a new single-fight record for a UFC heavyweight bout.
