Rushingâs dominance isnât just compared to his own teammates.
When looking at all batters regardless of number of plate appearances, his wRC+ of 244 is still top five, behind only four other players who each have less than 10 plate apperances.
Rushing has 52 plate appearances, and when you compare him only to players with 10 or more, the next-closest player to Rushing is Daniel Susac of the San Francisco Giants, who has a wRC+ of 227 in 24 plate appearances.
As a backup, Rushing doesnât qualify for the MLB-wide statistical lead, but for comparison, that honor is currently held by Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros. His wRC+? 220.
Rushingâs success comes as heâs made himself a thorn in the side of multiple other fan bases.
Heâs intimated that the Colorado Rockies were cheating, and heâs been caught on camera â twice â swearing about opponents.
In the first instance, against the San Francisco Giants, he appeared to say âfâ âemâ about Jung Hoo Lee after a play at the plate appeared to leave Lee shaken up.
The next day, he took a fastball to the ribs, though he and Giants pitcher Logan Webb both downplayed the incident.
Then, after Miguel Amaya stole a base on Rushing, the Dodger appeared to call his Cubs counterpart a âfat fâ.â
Nico Hoerner of the Cubs later confirmed thatâs what Rushing said.
While other fan bases may despite Rushingâs antics, many Dodgers fans have rallied around his hard-nosed play.
Dodgers Nationâs Doug McKain said he âabsolutely love[s] how Dalton Rushing has fans around MLB in their feelings about him.â
âDalton Rushing is on a generational run. He has pissed off fans of other teams ⊠Iâm 100% here for it,â McKain said. âHe wants all the smoke.â
